Low confidence in senior management
One of the striking findings of our April 2008 survey is the low level of confidence in senior management teams. A dramatic 82% of office workers disagreed with the with the statement "I have confidence in my organisation's top management team".
The trend becomes all the more worrying when the performance of senior teams is revealed as a key factor in determining how happy people are at work. Of those workers that did have confidence in their senior managers, 79% were very happy in their work.
All of this is in the context of an increasingly nomadic working population. With nearly half of the workforce planning on changing jobs in 2008, it seems management teams aren't doing enough to stop this loss of talent.
And managers can find little comfort in demographics - the trend is fairly constant across all age groups, sectors and regions.
